Go Wild at Atlanta’s First Immersive Entertainment Venture

At Tech Square ATL (TSQATL) Social Club, we’re no stranger to virtual reality (VR), it’s ever-growing popularity, and the continuously-advancing technology that backs it. From community conversations of using VR in classrooms, training environments, and for exercise during a pandemic, to deep discussions with experts around the ever-expanding field and the future of the wearable technology, to more hands-on activations that include using VR to reduce fear response or create a community mural, we’ve pretty much covered it all (and will continue to do so!).

So, what’s the latest surrounding VR, locally? Look no further than Atlanta’s very own BeltLine, which will now be home to the first location of experiential entertainment group Illuminarium Experiences’ immersive concept. Illuminarium, which activates all your senses through cinematic immersion, transporting you to the world’s most extraordinary places and beyond (without a headset), is slated to open on Thursday, July 1.

Made possible by 4K video on gigantic screens, state-of-the-art spatial sound systems, haptic flooring, interactive features (e.g., “dust” might kick up as you walk by), and even “authentic scents” that will let you get a whiff of your virtual surroundings, this one-of-a-kind experience promises to provide cinematic exhibits that transport you – virtually – to another world. There’s also a big emphasis on experiencing the whole production together with other people, something we are all too familiar with

According to Illuminarium’s website, “Wild” is the first available experience, where “you’ll come face-to-face with the world’s most exotic animals while standing in their natural habitats. Visit the watering holes, wander the sweeping plains, take in the majestic landscapes. You’ll believe you’re there.”

In addition to the 8,000 square foot room where the virtual safari takes places, there’s also the Bar at Illuminarium, which will feature seven different global landscape projections:

  1. Living Mural, inspired by the tropical artwork of Henri Rousseau

  2. Shibuya Night Market, which will transport visitors to the glowing streetscape of Tokyo after dark

  3. Jardin De Fleurs, a lavish Mediterranean garden retreat in which vegetation will shift before the eyes

  4. Nebulas, which will ensconce guests in a cosmic cloud of stars and interstellar dust

  5. Crystal Excavation, which will host the public in a shimmering crystal cave

  6. Luminous Reefs, an underwater experience among coral reefs

  7. Sunset in the Stratosphere, which will take guests for a stroll among the clouds at golden hour

Tickets start at $35 and are on sale now!
