Fitness at Your Fingertips
Every week at The Clubhouse, we pose a question on our big conversation board about what’s been on the radar for our members lately. This is designed to not only spark conversations and encourage collaboration, but to also allow us to better know our community members in a fun and unique way. Recently, we asked what they are doing for exercise at the moment.
With all the ups and downs we’ve experienced in the last year, exercise is one of the most common ways that our members have sustained their well-being. Though gyms have since reopened for the most part, just like the state of California has done recently, social distancing restrictions did cause many of us to resort to working out at home instead – and some haven’t looked back since. While workout videos have been around since the 80s (did you always remember to “be kind and rewind?”), it still remains to be the most popular way our members keep their momentum. It’s no real surprise either, with streaming capabilities becoming better every day, and more popular. So, in addition to YouTube pilates and low-impact workout videos, the following are two noteworthy exercise apps our community recommends:
Sweat App
Sweat App is a subscription-based fitness training program for women that features high intensity workouts, low-impact, bodyweight, and strength training. Co-founded by Australian personal trainer and fitness influencer, Kayla Itsines, the app has many options to choose from, regardless of whether you have workout equipment or not. Sweat App is available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Fit On
Fit On is a free fitness training app that offers a variety of streaming apps like yoga, pilates, barre, strength training, HIIT, cardio, and more. Similar to Sweat App, all of the workouts can be done at home with minimal equipment. The app is free, but there is an option to upgrade for a monthly fee.
While there are always interesting new apps and exercise trends to try, some of our members prefer to simply be outside – whether it’s hiking in one of the many nature trails around Atlanta or running at the park. Just being able to unplug and recharge in nature is important for our well-being, and exercising outside offers benefits for both the body and the mind.
So, whether it’s using a phone to track and motivate themselves to keep up with their fitness routines, or getting outside to hike or go for a run, our members seem to find ways to keep exercise a top priority, despite their busy schedules. And with more tools and methods available at our fingertips, there’s something for everyone.
DID YOU KNOW?
Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese national health program implemented in 1982 with the aim of connecting people with nature in the simplest way possible: being in the forest and experiencing it with intention through the human senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. Since then, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry has designated a number of regional forest bathing reserves.
