Students and Faculty Learn the Science Behind the Perfect Pour-Over While Goal-Setting

Fresh off the heels of the GVU Center’s two-day event celebrating their 30th anniversary, we wanted to capitalize on all of the activity happening in the Technology Square Research Building (TSRB) as of late. So we decided to pop-up in the lobby early one morning to teach our community about the science behind a perfect pour-over, while they shared their goals for the upcoming year.

Students, professors, and researchers gathered early November to enjoy a warm cup of fresh coffee while being shown each step that it takes to produce the perfect pour-over and the tools needed, such as a bean grinder, electric scale, temperature reading kettle, and a glass pour-over system!

Following the demonstration, we asked attendees to share both their independent and collaborative goals for 2023:

What are your 2023 goals?

  • Graduate

  • Have better coffee

  • Have multiple publications

  • Journal (x2!)

  • Make more money

  • Sleep

What are your 2023 goals in collaboration with others?

  • Build more community

  • Collaborate with other universities

  • Create a startup in consumer tech

  • Efficient parenting

  • Find better travel reimbursment methods

  • Group research

  • Learn a new research method

  • Start a business

  • Talk to more people

  • Understand machine learning (ML)

Whether it’s focusing on major milestones, like graduating, or simply enhancing your circle by engaging with more people, it’s always a good idea to put to paper your future goals and ambitions – you’re much more likely to meet them that way!

What are your goals for the upcoming year? Let us know in the comments below.
