The Different Eras Community Members Would Like to Visit

Every week at The Clubhouse, we pose a question on our big conversation board about what’s been on the radar for our members lately. This is designed to not only spark conversations and encourage collaboration, but to also allow us to better know our community members in a fun and unique way. Recently, we asked what era they would like to live in if they could choose any one they wanted.

With answers ranging from the 14th century to the 20th century, it’s clear people are curious and passionate about living in a different time, in a different world. Let’s do some time traveling and check out the responses!

First up, the Renaissance era. Seen as a European cultural, artistic, political, and economic “rebirth” following the Middle Ages, the Renaissance period was a moment of rediscovery of classical philosophy, literature, and art. Some of the greatest thinkers, authors, scientists, artists, and statesmen in history flourished during this time.

Moving on to the late 18th century, this time period was primarily selected because of quite a few historical moments that happened then, such as the French Revolution and the American Revolution.

Let’s start with the French Revolution, a historical event in modern European history which began in 1789 and ended in the late 1790s, with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. At this time, French citizens destroyed and redesigned the country’s political landscape, removing century old institutions, like the monarchy, and feudal system. This happened due to an extensive dissatisfaction with the French monarchy and the poor economic policies of King Louis XVI.

Next is the American Revolution, a rebellion in which 13 of Great Britain’s North American colonies fought for political independence, due to the growing tension between the colonies and the colonial government. They eventually won and later went on to form the United States of America.

Now, we are moving into the second decade of the 20th century, or better known as, the Roaring Twenties. One community member chose this timeframe in Paris specifically, with a similar outlook as Midnight in Paris, due to all of the amazing artists during this time period, such as, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Scott Fitzgerald, and so many more. Besides the amazing work and artists, this period is known for its amazing nightlife, and how it was responsible for rich social, artistic, and cultural collaborations.

Progressing into later dates in the 20th century, the 1960s and 1970s were selected because of amazing musicians, such as, Jimi Hendricks, Janis Joplin, and The Doors

Finally, we complete our time traveling tour with a stop at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, where technological changes were blooming from the WorldWideWeb to the growth of Apple and Microsoft.

Whether it’s influenced by music, artwork, food, or technology, each of our members have a clear passion and reason for their curiosity for wanting to experience a different time and place – and we love embracing that!
