Fan or Foe: Our Community Members Share Their Favorite Sports Teams

Every week at The Clubhouse, we pose a question on our big conversation board about what’s been on the radar for our members lately. This is designed to not only spark conversations and encourage collaboration, but to also allow us to better know our community members in a fun and unique way. Recently, we asked what their favorite sports teams are.

We pride ourselves on being a technology and data focused community, but we do know how to let our hand down and have some fun! As big sports enthusiasts, we were curious who among us were fellow fans or the ultimate enemy. With a wide range of sports to select from, we received answers representing both national and international teams.

Starting with the “home team,” let’s give a big round of applause for the Atlanta Braves, which were mentioned quite a few times. If you’re a baseball fan, then you know the season started just a few weeks ago. And although access is limited, you can still purchase tickets for the games and enjoy a nice, socially-distanced outing to root for the team we all love.

Along a similar sports lineage is softball, another popular answer from our community members. Teams that were highlighted were UCLA and Arizona softball teams – we’re guessing we have some West Coast alma maters in our midst! And despite baseball and softball being very similar in nature, there are key aspects that make them different. For instance, in baseball, the ball is thrown overhand, at a distance of 60 feet from the pitcher to the batter. In softball, the ball is thrown underhand, at a shorter distance of 43 feet.

Moving away from outdoor sports to indoor arenas, let’s discuss hockey. Seemingly most popular in the northeast, the teams that were mentioned by our community members were from the sunny, golden state of California – the one and only, Los Angeles Kings. Fun fact, Atlanta actually had a hockey team back in 1997 called the Atlanta Thrashers, but they were later sold in 2011 to the True North Sports in Canada.

To close off this sports adventure, we also received international selections referring to football, or soccer as we know it in the States. The most popular team was Manchester United, which is based in England. Known as one of the most popular and successful sports teams in the world, Manchester United has over 141 years of history, 66 trophies, and 20 English league records.

And what may be shocking to some, American football was noticeably low on the spectrum of answers. Perhaps the help of a new head coach for the Atlanta Falcons will change some minds in terms of favorite sports teams in the future?
