TEP Talk: The Rev-Ale-Lation of Master Brewer’s First-Ever Community Beer
After several dreary, cold, and rainy days early last week, the sunshine finally came out Thursday – just in time for part-two of our Mind of a Maker activation hosted at Technology Enterprise Park (TEP). During the Rev-Ale-Lation event, Master Brewer, Nicholas Fowler, tapped the Dry Irish Stout he brewed a few weeks earlier, revealed the winning beer name the community voted for, and was quizzed on random beer trivia questions.
In the three weeks leading up to the event, as the beer was fermenting, community members had the opportunity to vote for one of the five name finalists that were determined following the Fe-Brew-Ary festivities that took place at the end of last month. Regardless of the nearly 40 submissions, one reigned supreme:
VERO Biotech’s very own, C.Q. Bui, was the lucky winner of the contest, citing that the origin of the name was an “obvious choice” due to the timing of the release. And clearly, others agreed.
In addition to the name reveal, attendees were also finally able to try out the finished product – but not before quizzing the Master Brewer himself with some beer-related trivia questions, such as:
1. What unusual ingredients can be found in Voodoo Doughnut of the American brewery Rogue?
A: Bacon and maple syrup
2. How did the Sumerians, an ancient Mesopotamian people, drink beer?
A: Using a straw
3. In what country was beer long served in school canteens?
A: Belgium
Despite Fowler’s expertise and exceptional brewing skills, he barely netted out on top, answering only 13 of the 25 questions correctly. But hey – at least the beer was delicious!
