Student Organization Brings Beautiful Code To Nonprofits

Rhea Chatterjee founded Bits of Good to connect Georgia Tech computer science students with local nonprofits to leverage their skills for the greater good.

Each semester, students form project teams and partner with a nonprofit to build a technology solution to a problem plaguing the organization.

At the end of the semester, project teams present their solutions to an audience of nonprofits and major enterprises alike.

“Demo Day was a lot of fun,” said Bits of Good member and third year computer science major Shannon Ke. “Being able to finally explain exactly what was going on all semester to a bunch of different people was really rewarding. It solidified the fact that we had actually changed something.”

She was surprised that companies like Home Depot “were genuinely interested in what we had to offer — and that was a great feeling.”
