Event Recap: Robotics in the Square
A few weeks ago, TSQ ATL hosted a robotics day in the courtyard, showcasing the robotics innovation happening in the community. Undaunted, a security technology company brought two robotic security dogs for live demonstrations, where attendees could observe and control the units while learning about the company’s mission. The Home Depot’s Orange Works Innovation Lab also participated, featuring its robot dog wearing a signature orange Home Depot apron.
Georgia Tech’s Uncommon Sense Lab, part of the School of Interactive Computing, brought two working prototypes. One was a soft robot being used in medical research, and the other was a smoking robot designed for studies involving e-cigarettes and vapes. The courtyard was active throughout the event, drawing people across Georgia Tech and Tech Square to engage with the demos and explore what’s being built here.
Robotics Day in the Square is part of a broader effort to turn Tech Square into a live testbed for emerging technology. “Events like this are where curiosity turns into capability,” says Julie Pierre, Tech Square Innovation Ecosystem Relationship Manager, who helped facilitate the event. “Watching our Tech Square community engage with robotics reminds us why hands-on learning is so powerful.” From sidewalk robots and delivery bots to interactive systems being tested in public, the area is becoming a hub where research meets real-world application. Keep an eye out—robotics isn’t just happening in the lab anymore; it’s happening right outside.
