Civic Hack Night Returns Spring Semester of Social-Good Projects

Civic Hack Night, a welcoming space for civic-minded, social-good tech projects, was back in action for the Spring semester! Inviting individuals with all backgrounds, skill levels, and experiences to join in on the volunteer effort, the event aimed to make Atlanta a more inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible community!

Civic tech is the intersection of government tech and public interest tech, and exactly what Civic Tech Atlanta is all about. To get others involved, they hosted an event at The Clubhouse, encouraging civic-minded tech (and non-tech!) folks to network, learn more, and work on some actual projects!

The evening started explaining the history, mission, and guiding principles of Civic Tech Atlanta and dove in a bit deeper regarding civic tech initiatives and sustainable development, which emphasizes design focused on the user and long-term self-sustaining maintenance and use.

After introducing the projects for that night, participants then split into groups to start working! Projects included data exploration for an Atlanta food pantry, an internal website redesign, and brainstorming ideas related to Atlanta Neighborhood Planning Units’ note taking at meetings.

Overall, the event helped Civic Tech Atlanta continue its mission of working on sustainable social-good projects with stakeholders of the community to benefit Atlanta, focusing on collaborative efforts to develop partnerships and innovate solutions.
