Legal Qualms Addressed at Tech Tuesday Founder Happy Hour
Kabila, the co-founder matching app, Techstars portfolio company, and soon-to-be $5 million investment fund, hosted the inaugural ATL Tech Tuesday Founder Happy Hour at The Clubhouse in early March. The event, which is “for founders, by founders,” invited local community members to enjoy complimentary food, drinks, and most importantly, learn more about the topic at hand for the evening – startup legal issues.
Founders from all over flooded The Clubhouse, despite the bad weather, to meet other entrepreneurs and learn a thing or two from the hosts and speakers of the evening:
James Oliver, Jr., Co-Founder at Kabila
Anastasia Simon, Investment Principal at Techstars Atlanta Powered by Cox Enterprises
Tre Baker, Managing Director at Techstars
Abraham J. Williamson, Chief Legal Officer at Simply Global
After initial introductions made by James, Anastasia invited founders to submit the application to her program, and Tre spoke about other ways beyond VCs that founders can access capital. Then the main attraction took the stage.
Abraham, who is a high-growth startup attorney, spoke about legal issues early-stage founders often miss and shared some incredibly helpful tips throughout the evening:
Paying attention to the small legal details are important for founders.
Having a good attorney can save you a lot of time and money down the road.
Founders need to be creative about finding alternative funding sources.
Immediately following was a Q&A session and additional networking. The evening generated a fantastic turnout of early-stage founders and equally as important, having the event in The Clubhouse opened it up to a new audience of collaborators and contributors who have different experiences and expertise to share.
