TEP Talk: Is 17 the “Most Random” Number?

On National Yellow Pig Day, we popped up at Technology Enterprise Park (TEP) to find out if the number 17 was indeed the “most random” number.

There is a Yellow Pig Day theory that people would more often pick the number "17" when asked to pick a random number between one and 20.

To our surprise and wonder, this was debunked by our TEP community. From our small sample size of 13 participants (which is another prime number!) who stopped by for a socially distanced Yellow Pig Day treat, here were our findings:

  • The most popular numbers picked were a tie between numbers 18 and 19

  • Six out of 13 picked odd numbers

  • Seven out of 13 picked even numbers

Did You Know?

The number 17 in our proximity: The Aska Trails Area is a popular 17-mile trail system in Blue Ridge, Georgia, with hikes that intersect and loop ranging from one to five-and-a-half miles.

What Do You Think?

Here’s another commonly-accepted fact to ponder on: Pebble Beach has a specific road known as the 17-Mile Drive along the Monterey Peninsula in California.

But is the route really 17 miles when driven in a complete loop?

The next time you’re out in that part of the California coast, let us know if your odometer proves this right or wrong.
